Energy efficiency evaluation of data centers using low-grade steam from thermal power plants

In this paper, the energy efficiency evaluation methods of data center using low-grade steam from thermal power plants as part of the input energy are studied, the actual power loss method is proposed, and the energy saving effect of using low-grade steam from thermal power plants is studied. In the case study, this paper compares the application of equal value method, equivalent electricity method and actual power loss method in the energy efficiency evaluation, and suggests using the actual power loss method to evaluate the energy efficiency of data centers. In the case, the energy saving effect of cooling with low-grade steam from thermal power plants is not significant. With the rise of the chilled water supply temperature, it is necessary to make quantitatively studies based on the steam quality, the chilled water supply temperature, the equipment performance and the climatic conditions to evaluate the energy saving effect of using low-grade steam from thermal power plants in data centers.
